If At First You Don’t Succeed……..Sim Update

Once again, it’s Friday night and I’m starting my iracing week.   I have the weekend to get the 3 races I need in and possibly more if they don’t go to well, like my first race of the week at USA international Raceway.

I qualified 8th and was doing ok following the lead pack around until we started catching lapped traffic.  I was trying to make a move on the guy in front of me but I just could not make the pass stick and I would end up following him again.  Like I said we caught lapped traffic and since this is a rookie series, he got in the way and took out one of the cars in our pack.  They both went up into the wall and came down right in front of me.  I was already slowing down so the impact was not that great but I lost the lead pack due to this and fell back quite a bit to 13th.  I managed to work my way back up to 10th, but my irating in the oval racing suffered because of it.

Second race at USA international, I finished 6th but was right with 4th and 5th, I just couldn’t get around them.  It was a pretty uneventful race, the beginning was exciting because of the 12 car and I battling.  I was faster and once I got around him he was nowhere to be found.  I passed a couple of more people and ran around the track in 6th for the rest of the race.  I’ll take it, better than 10th!

Spec Racer For at Okayama!  It was the short track configuration so there was 25 laps of racing going on.  I managed to qualify 7th and end up finishing 4th!  I would be real excited about this but the Strength of Field wasn’t there and I only got 48 points for my efforts.  At least I got some practice in for that track.  Maybe I will get to race it again this weekend.  I have the Spec Racer Ford setup to be pretty stable and I did not spin it out on that track.  It may not be the fastest configuration in that car, but not spinning is always fastest!

Crap, crap crap crap!  I thought I was good at Laguna Seca and with the MX-5 but I am not.  I qualified 6th which wasn’t too bad and moved up to 4th, I had that I want to win mentality so I was pushing pretty hard.  Apparently I pushed too hard because I lost it on the 2nd turn and spun out right into someone’s path.  He hit my rear bumper, no fault of his, and sent me flying into the wall and destroying my car.  I managed to limp it around to the pits but I had lost significant positions.  After getting it fixed I was able to run my best lap times around the track but then I lost it again in the same spot!  I didn’t completely wreck so it was ok and I didn’t lose any positions, but that just sucks.  I need to run this race again.  .

I went right back to it.  Ran Laguna Seca again the very next race and did much better.  Qualified 5th and finished 3rd!  Was battling cleanly with another racer but he seemed to dive bomb a little bit so I would let him go, but I would stay with him and force a mistake on his part and eventually passed him back and pulled away.  Ended up 5 seconds in front of him, he was pushing hard and probably screwing up.  Racing is definitely different from Qualifying.
